Alpha Tyler has always had an interest in actors. She received her B.A. in theatre from California State University, Northridge, a suburb just north of Los Angeles. Never having a desire to pursue acting as a career, Alpha decided to do research on careers in entertainment and came across a chapter on casting. Wanting to learn more, she wrote casting directors, asking them for career advice and for an internship opportunity. Alpha’s first internships paved the way for her to work as a casting assistant and associate for studio projects for Warner Bros., Universal Studios, Paramount Studios, DreamWorks, and with many independent casting directors in Los Angeles. Some of those early projects included, “Martin,” “In the House,” “The Fugitive” (television series), “Roswell”, “All of Us” and the first season of “Num3ers.” One of her career highlights occurred in 1997 when she was hired as the casting assistant on Spike Lee’s “He Got Game” with Denzel Washington in New York. Six months after moving to Atlanta, GA in May 2006, Alpha met Tyler Perry and the rest is history in the making. She has worked as the in-house freelance casting director at Tyler Perry Studios since January 2007 and has done the local casting on the last 9 Tyler Perry feature films including “Why Did I Get Married Too,” “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” and “For Colored Girls.” She is the casting director of the television series “Meet the Browns” and has also cast all episodes of “House of Payne,” which became cables #1 sitcom telecast of all time. Due to her success at Tyler Perry Studios, in May 2008 the Atlanta Journal Constitution featured her in an article in the jobs section entitled “Why I Love My Job.” She has been able to pursue her dreams as a casting director while giving actors an opportunity to pursue theirs.
